I'M A SURVIVOR...of abandonment from my family and parvo! And now I am looking for someone to love me, care for me, keep me safe, and teach me how to be a GREAT dog! My picture shows you just how adorable I am, but what it does not show you is just how ornery I can be...I am a tom boy at heart! I LOVE to spend my days playing (especially with other dogs and in the water) and my nights snuggled up next to you. I can be a bit shy at first but it doesn't take long til I am your best friend. Meridan
ADOPTED!!
Meridan is a sweet, submissive, social girl who wants nothing more than to snuggle up to her friends and enjoy their company! She has yet to meet a person, dog or cat that she doesn't adore ... and she has successfully won over even the toughest of critics who have met her. Mer got off to a very rough start with a bad case of pneumonia shortly after arriving at the shelter as a stray, but a little TLC and home cookin' with some good antibiotics and she has bounced back beautifully and is a happy, healthy girl now. She is CT, HB, and an excellent family member. Vet reference required. Meridan is in foster, email Erin ....

Olivia
ADOPTED!!
An absolutely incredible dog ... her snuggling ways, her happy bouncy spirit, and her unconditional love will endear her to even the toughest of critics. And what is most impressive of all is that she does all this through constant pain as her hips pop in and out of their joints with each step, the result of a severe case of hip dysplasia which she has endured for years.
Thanks to the generosity of FOTS donors, however, Liv is going to get the chance to know life without constant pain following a surgery which will stop her joints from grinding and popping with her every move.
Crate-trained, housebroken, very social, and good with everyone she meets. Good vet reference required. No kids under 8 years old.

Ashley
ADOPTED!
Have you ever had one of those days? Well, Ashley’s was worse. This poor girl was found on the streets, pregnant and unable to walk.
Thinking she had been hit by a car, Good Sams brought her to the shelter and we in turn took her for x-rays. No broken bones were found, but internal injury indicated she needed emergency surgery. Her puppies could not be saved, but luckily she was able to pull through.
Thanks to FOTS, Ashley is live and well and has the most grateful attitude and gentle nature to remind us of just what a 'special' girl she is…
Ashley is an absolute sweetheart.

Five Lucky Puppies! These guys are a product of an unwanted litter that then contracted the deadly parvovirus and then were dumped at the shelter. It was a rough start indeed! But, through the dedication of our volunteers and the generosity of FOTS, all 5 were given the chance to make it and that is just what they did!
Thanks to Friends of the Shelter, these pups have a second chance! Please donate to FOTS to continue these programs.

Marla
ADOPTED!
A delightful sweet, shy girl who needs some gentle coaxing to help her come out of her shell. She got off to a rough start but has bounced back incredibly from parvo and pneumonia and is now looking for that special family to call her own. She's a playful pup at heart and enjoys the company of other canine companions, especially when there is a good game of chase going on. One of her favorite things is to stretch out in the cool grass and shimmy her belly along before taking off for another lap of fun. Working on CT & HB. Marla is in foster care.
I'M A SURVIVOR ... of abandonment and parvo! And now I am looking for someone to love me, care for me, and teach me how to be a GREAT dog!
Pictures don't give my striking brindle body or my little nubbin' of a tail justice, but if you take the time to meet me in person, you won't be able to say no! I LOVE to play, especially with other pups who like to wrestle and tumble, but I am a cuddler with my person at heart. I can be a little shy at first, but give me a quick belly rub and squeeze and I'll be yours forever.
CT & working on HB. Vet reference required.

I LOVE to play, especially with other pups who like to wrestle and tumble, but I have a snuggler side too. I am very attentive and love to learn, especially when there is food involved. Very social and would make a great family pet.

Gwen ADOPTED!!
Gwen is alive only because of the generosity of foster parents, dedicated vets, and donations to FOTS. This sweet pup was found stray by one of our wardens, stoically hobbling down the street, dragging her broken back leg after being hit by a car, looking for someone to help her. Although her fracture was severe, her spirit was even stronger and after a few weeks of an immobilized leg and cage rest, Gwen's leg healed beautifully and she is now making up for her lost puppyhood, playing with others and jumping into her foster mom's lap for some snuggle time. Gwen is social with dogs, cats, and kids. CT and nearly HB. Definite agility potential. Privacy fence & vet reference required.

Save These Puppies’ Legs!!
Surgery is possible, but we urgently need to funds to provide it. Both of these sweet little pups have injuries caused by a lack of medical care and the result for each is a painful, deformed leg that they are unable to use. But, they can grow up to live happy, healthy, pain-free lives if we can get them the orthopedic surgeries that they need.
Donate NOW to Friends of the Shelter to help us help them. Time is of the essence for these puppies. They are still growing, which is causing for further damage to the already compromised bones and ligaments in their leg. They NEED your help!
Dweezle ADOPTED!
An absolutely wonderful, eager to please, affectionate fuzzball who is eager to please and ready to learn. Dweezle came to the FCDS as an unclaimed stray with a limp to his front leg. He needs orthopedic surgery to repair his leg.
Dweezle is a quick study who loves the company of others, whether it be curling up beside his person on the couch for a nap or playing in the yard with a canine companion. CT & nearly HB. Vet reference required.

Piper
ADOPTED!!
Piper is a happy-go-lucky pup who has been dealt a rough couple of blows in her early days. Broken by her former home and then dumped at the dog shelter, Piper already had the odds stacked against her with a mismanaged compound fracture of her left front leg. But thanks to the generosity of FOTS, Piper found her way to an excellent surgeon who has given her back the use of her leg. Although she'll always have a 'character curve' to the front leg, it doesn't stop her from being a puppy and in fact, makes her even more entertaining to watch.
As Piper continues to heal and grow, she will need a little extra TLC to make sure her leg is not re-injured but should have no long term ill effects from this injury. Piper would love a family ready to play, play, play but who also will appreciate her snuggle bug side when it is time to rest. Vet reference required. No children under 8 years old. Fenced yard recommended.

Redley ADOPTED!!
Hopelessly devoted to the one who will save him! Redley came to the FCDS, an obvious product of neglect and full of heartworms. Although a little shy at first, his attempts to take his 80 pound body and strategically place it on one's lap earned him a second chance at life.
Thanks to the generous funding support of FOTS, Red has been able to undergo further diagnostic testing and treatment for his heartworm disease and is now recovering and regaining his strength so that he is fortified for the many years of fun that await him.
Red will make an awesome companion for that someone who is looking for a soulmate. Crate-trained & housebroken. Good with most other dogs, ok with cats, but quite content to be your one and only. No kids under 10. Vet reference required.

Maya ADOPTED!! Simply wonderful ... and ever so grateful! Maya came to FCDS after being plowed under by a car and left with a shattered rear leg to drag along behind her until she was befriended by a dog warden.
Ever so tolerant of being examined, lifted, and cared for by those around her, Maya was a definite 'keeper' and through the support of FOTS, has been through an extensive surgery to reconstruct her badly fractured leg and allow her to continue on in the future with the use of all four of her legs.
Her pathetic eyes and gentle kisses will endear you to her forever. Excellent temperment and very social with dogs, cats, and people of all ages. Crate-trained & nearly housebroken. Vet reference required.

Kendra
ADOPTED!
Kendra is alive only because of the generosity of foster parents, dedicated vets, and donations to FOTS. This sweet dog was found stray and dying of parvo.
She was rather sick for a time but with the help of medicine, fluids and TLC, she recovered completely and is full of life just as any dog should be.
Kendra is CT, HB and good with both dogs and cats.
Dyna ADOPTED! She’s never had a real home to call her own; she’s been starved for food, water, and attention; she’s been hobbling around on a broken leg for weeks and weeks … and still, she is a happy-go-lucky puppy who is eager to play with anyone who will show her attention and determined to cuddle with any warm body that will snuggle with hers.
Dyna is currently in foster care trying to gain enough weight and strength to endure an operation which will rebreak her badly deformed leg and allow her to live a normal life for many years to come.
Dyna is only getting this chance to find a happy ending because of the generous donors who support FOTS and their mission to rehabilitate any adoptable dog.

Randy ADOPTED!
Don’t be fooled by his age. Although he needed a dental (Thanks, FOTS!), Randy is healthy, active and ready to play. He is a sweet, goofy boy who loves to ‘talk.’ Read: he’s a barker when he wants your attention. He is good with other dogs, seems to like everyone he meets, and will be a fun addition to most any household.
No cats, please!
He needs a permanent home and/or donations for his care.

Jackson ADOPTED!
A happy-go-lucky, easy going, friendly guy who seems to love everyone he meets and sees the future with ever optimistic and hopeful eyes. Jackson came to FCDS in sad shape, obviously the product of neglect. His starved state left him physically weak with protruding bones and patchy hair, previous trauma left him to hobble around with a haphazardly healing back leg and hip socket that had been previously broken by excessive force.
It's been over two months since Jackson's arrival at FCDS and he is now 'presentable' for adoption and looking for a special home who will love him and care for him unconditionally.
Excellent companion, loves to play with other dogs, good with cats and kids too! Vet reference required!

Rachel ADOPTED!
Life should not be so bad, so much, for those so young. In her first ten weeks of life, Rachel has experienced abandonment on the streets, at least one very cold night under a dumpster in an dark alley without food or water, a near miss from being struck by a car ... and now, just as she was getting back on her feet and almost ready to go up for adoption, she has been dealt the final blow of parvo and pneumonia ... and still, we fight for her.
Because of the generosity of FOTS donors and the establishment of the offsite infirmary program, Rachel is getting the medical intervention she needs to help her body survive her ailments ... so that hopefully, one day soon, Rachel will be able to play in her first snow flakes, as all puppies should.

Nadia ADOPTED! You'd never know it from her picture, but this incredibly sweet, happy-go-lucky girl nearly died from parvovirus just a few short weeks ago. Days of agonizing misery gave way to a triumphant recovery however, thanks to the support of FOTS.
With a spring in her step and a constant wiggle of her tail nubbin, Nadia greets every day and every person with a grin on her face, a sparkle to her eye, and all the attentiveness one could ask for. Social, loveable, and hopefully devoted to those who show her some attention,
Nadia will make an incredible companion to just about any family. CT & HB. Vet reference required.
Dobby is one tough cookie ... with one soft heart! This little gal has spent the last few weeks hobbling around the city streets with a broken hip until she was fortunate enough to be picked up by one of our wardens.
Because of the generosity of FOTS donors, Dobby was able to have her leg xrayed to see what and where the injury was and she just underwent surgery to fix her leg and provide her with some relief. Within just a few hours of surgery, Dobby was wiggling her little tail nubbin' to show her appreciation to those who had helped her get this far.
She is now recovering in a foster home and getting some extra TLC. Within just a few weeks, Dobby will be up for running and playing like all pups should and will make an excellent addition to someone's family. She is doing incredibly well and using her injured leg more and more each day.
This is Dobby at a recent fundraiser. She really enjoyed herself!

Emily ADOPTED!!
Emily is truly a miracle pup. She came to us as a stray pup and immediately came down with the deadly parvovirus. Unprotected dogs who contract parvo suffer extreme vomiting, diarrhea and dehydration and the virus is often fatal. Emily was very, very sick.
Fortunately for Emily we were able to treat her right away with support from Friends of the Shelter and she survived, and is improving daily.

Emily needs donations to pay for her treatment and is looking for a permanent new home!

Emma
ADOPTED!
Emma is getting a second chance at a happy ending because of the generosity of foster parents, dedicated vets, and donations to FOTS. This sweet pup was found stray, hobbling around in her rear quarters after being smashed by a car, leaving her with multiple pelvic fractures. Her injuries were bad, but her stoic nature and sweet, gentle demeanor were even stronger. Emma is receiving the medical attention she needs to complete a full recovery and will be available for adoption around February 1st. She is looking forward to many years of romping with her new family and friends. CT & HB. Good with dogs, cats, and kids. Fenced yard and vet reference required.

Ginger ADOPTED!!
A bouncy, happy, social gal on her way to becoming beautiful. Ginger came to us missing a significant amount of hair due to neglect by her previous owner but thanks to Friends of the Shelter, she is being treated for the cause of her non-contagious hair loss and getting some extra needed TLC in our foster program while she recovers.
Ginger is full of puppy spunk and her tail nub never stops wigglin! She is very playful with other dogs and eager to learn. She loves people and is ready to learn! CT & working on HB. Vet reference required.
Boxer 5 months 35lbs

Pudding ADOPTED!!
Pudding came to us as a lost dog with an old injury. Her leg had been fractured and left to heal very badly on its own.
Friends of the Shelter paid for her surgery to fix the old break and she is doing really well now.
Pudding is friendly, likes other dogs, housebroken and crate-trained. She's a little timid around new men until she gets to know them. Pudding would love a home willing to work with her and continue good socialization.
Donations are needed to pay for her x-rays, surgery and medical care.

Darcy ADOPTED!
An absolute sweetheart who has had a rough first year ... but we are promising her many smooth years ahead! Darcy was most likely beaten as a puppy which resulted in a fracture of her scapula (shoulder) which has since healed on its own, leaving one front leg shorter than the other. Thanks to Friends of the Shelter, Darcy was able to be evaluated by a special orthopedic surgeon who believes that her injuries have not left her in any pain nor likened her to arthritis at her injury site in the future, only left her with the mechanical abnormality of one leg being shorter than another, making her look 'off balance' when she walks. Despite her past, Darcy still greets every day with awesome energy, loves to play with other dogs, ok with cats, and very gentle with people, often going 'belly up' for a rub and some affection. CT & HB. Vet reference required.
Mixed 1 year 45lbs
Thank you, Karen C.!
Sugar ADOPTED!
Sugar came from a loving home, one that almost literally loved her to death with all of the table scraps and other tasty treats.
She was triple the weight that she should be. Her owner meant well, but could not properly care for her. Sugar’s teeth are in bad shape, and she is lucky not to be diabetic. Her joints will also be at risk if she doesn’t slim down, and she was heartworm positive.
Sugar is a happy, bouncy sweetheart of a dog who deserves another chance for a truly loving and caring home.
Sugar is doing well with her treatment and has already lost 19 lbs!
6-7 years Terrier mix
Sugar needs donations to pay for her treatment!
Thank you, Teresa!
Dirk
ADOPTED!
Dirk is a happy, bouncy, playful boy who is READY for action! Dirk was hit by a car earlier this summer and suffered a broken leg, but has successfully healed and is primed for some fun. Dirk LOVES peanut butter kongs and walks in the park. He is your typical all American Lab pup and looking for a family to call his own and teach him tricks in exchange for treats! CT & HB. Would do best with an active person or family due to his size and energy level!

Georgia
ADOPTED!!
Georgia had a rough start- someone decided to dock her tail by wrapping it with a rubber band. She then ended up at the shelter as a stray with her tail rotting off her body, the rubber band embedded in her tail. Thanks to FOTS, we were able to amputate the tail and she has recovered without problem; her little nub wiggling at everyone she meets. She is good with dogs, is CT and working on HB. Vet ref required.

Veronica
ADOPTED!!
A wonderfully sweet, happy but initially shy gal who has lived a life of neglect up until this point. Found wandering the streets, infested with fleas, covered in a skin infection, and stricken with luxating patellas (bad knees) which left her every step full of pain, this little girl is still all wiggles and wags with even the slightest amount of attention shown to her. With help from Friends of the Shelter, Veronica is having her knees repaired so that her future steps will take less effort and be free of pain. CT & HB. Low maintenance. Looking for a calm, patient home to help her recover from her past and show her just how good life can be. Vet reference required.
Long Haired Chihuahua Mix 6-8 years 15lbs
Keri
ADOPTED!
Keri was a pathetic specimen of a Labrador and is in dire need of a diet. She was uncomfortable, had trouble getting around, and was easily winded. And yet, she is happy, sweet and eager to please.
Just like with people, dogs’ health can be seriously impacted by carrying around extra pounds. No doubt that her owners thought they were being nice by allowing her to eat all sorts of ‘people’ food, but they were in fact harming her.
Keri is now in a foster home, on a low calorie diet and working to slowly lose the weight. The extra weight has affected her knees and arthritis is setting in. She will need lifelong pain management to keep her feeling comfortable, but she is ready and willing to start a new, lighter life with someone.
6 yrs. Labrador Retriever Mix

Keri's doing great in her foster home
and has lost 22 lbs.

Brad
ADOPTED!
Brad is a darling little boy who came to us with a crushed rear leg. After many x-rays and orthopedic consultations, we found his only option was to have the leg removed. Fortunately, FOTS agreed to pay for his surgery. He is in foster care while he recovers from surgery but is doing great and neither his spirit nor his speed has been hindered. Great with dogs and cats, CT, working on HB. Vet ref required.

Bunson
ADOPTED!
An incredibly courageous, gentle guy who hasn't let his misfortune sour his outlook on life! Bunson was attacked by another dog prior to coming to the shelter which left him with nearly a dozen puncture wounds to his abdomen, life threatening infection, and an injured rear leg. So far, Bunson's wounds are healing nicely, he has beat the infection in his body, and has had one reconstructive surgery to his knee. His recuperation will continue through the end of October, but he hopes to be 'up and running' shortly thereafter. CT & HB. Good with other dogs. Vet reference required.

Hillary has a lot of life to live and a TON of love to give.
She will need supplements and antiinflammatory meds to keep her active. Her adoptors will need a good vet reference!

Belle has moderate hip dyplasia, although it is not symptomatic at this time. Vet reference & giant breed experience required.
Belle needs a permanent home!
Louie ADOPTED!!!
A happy-go-lucky, agreeable guy who simply loves life. Thanks to the generosity of Friends of the Shelter, Louie is able to use all four of his legs instead of only the front two after his 'luxating patellas' (movable knee caps) were surgically repaired in order to no longer cause him pain and limitations. Quite a little lovebug and very social with everyone he meets. Not recommended for homes with children <6years old six due to his small body size. CT & HB. Vet reference required! Louie is in foster care, please email Erin to meet him.

Tiffaminy
10 months Chihuahua mix 8 lbs.
Little Tiff was dumped at our shelter with a terrified look and a nasty femoral fracture. Something certainly hurts this littyle gal. But through the efforts of some very special volunteers and FOTS support, we were able to send her to an orthopedic surgeon who stabilized her leg with internal pins and then it was on to her foster home to recover with plenty of TLC. The leg is healing and the terror is long since gone from her eyes. Tiff is a sweet, cuddly but also active little pup who is ready for a home to love and care for her in the manner she always should've had. Vet reference required.
A genuinely awesome dog who's eyes will melt your heart. This big black dog has so much love to give and happiness to provide. She is a perfect house guest, excellent with other dogs and cats, gentle with everyone she meets, a model traveller and a nice balance of playful spunk and quiet companionship. She is truly a low maintenance, adaptable gal just looking for some place to call her own. Mild hip dysplasia on xray but not showing any clinical signs of lameness at this time. CT, HB and does not need to be crated.
Caty is in foster care, please email Erin to meet her.
Turtle met the mean streets at a very young age. Likely hit by a car, she was left to stagger around, her wounds becoming infected, until a Deputy Warden brought her to the shelter, then we discovered Turtle had not only a broken leg, but two broken hips, too.
Exuding sweetness, Turtle sat there and licked us as we took many x-rays to determine what all was broken and what procedures would be needed to fix her.
She has now had consult with an orthopedic surgeon and her prognosis is great. Because she is so young, surgery will stabilize her broken bones and allow her to both mend and grow without problem- but she needs cage rest to ensure that this happens.

ADOPTED! Braydon
Braydon is in our care as a result of another owner who could not or would not care for their dog.
He somehow got loose, was hit by a car, and then was surrendered to one of our deputy wardens when his owners stated they did not have the funds to fix him.
We are not sure if we have the funds, either but we are trying to find a way to save this sweet little boy. X-rays show that he has multiple pelvis fractures that may heal with time and strict cage rest. But there is also a good chance that he will need corrective surgeries as the bones begin to heal.
Braydon needs a permanent home and/or donations for x-rays, medical care and potential future surgeries.
Buckeye was running loose when he was struck by a car. A dog warden picked him up and brought him in to the shelter for care. His leg was severely broken. But when we contacted his owner, the owner decided he would not come to claim Buckeye. He surrendered Buckeye to our care.
One of the vets working to recover him has fallen in love. Buckeye will be the first shelter dog that has melted her heart to the point of a permanent place in her home.
The story is getting old, but we won’t give up on the dogs simply because the owners have.
Donations are needed to save the Buckeyes of the world. X-rays, medical care, medical supplies, and potential surgeries to correct fractures are all funded by FOTS.

Turner
Turner was dumped by a backyard breeder. He shows the evidence of a life left outside- he has flystrike on his ears, his coat was filthy and dull, and he is heartworm positive.
His sweet, docile nature melts your heart, especially when you see the fear in his eyes as you ask him to cross the threshold of a door, or to get into a car, walk on a leash, or any number of other routine actions in our dogs’ lives.
Turner is a trusting, eager-to-please boy who will make a wonderful companion as soon as is his heartworm treatment is complete. He requires 6 weeks of cage rest following his treatment. His recovery is expected to be complete with no lasting effects.
Male Black Lab 3-4 years
Turner needs donations to pay for his treatment.

Brash
Brash came to us as a matted, skinny, wreck of a dog. Someone apparently had tried to relieve him of some of his matting, but the skin was pulled so tight that they sliced right through to his hip. After MANY hours on the grooming table, we were able to shear him like a sheep.
He is now shaved down and feels SO much better, but he still needs to be treated several times a day for the ulcers in his eyes, the wounds to his skin, and he is trying to also gain some weight.
4 yrs old Shih Tzu
Donations are needed for his medical needs and supplies.

Oliver
This poor boy came to the shelter, discarded by his owners, and covered in mange. He was itchy, scabby AND contagious to both animals and people.
But we still found a dedicated foster mom who would not let him be discarded again. Through vigilant caution, care and medication, little Oliver is now Bug-free and doing great. (And yes, his foster mom remained healthy, too!)
Oliver has a punky, spunky personality and is always tons of fun. Good with dogs, cats and older (12+) children.

Daisy
A broken leg, a displaced knee, several broken toes… something got Daisy’s right rear leg and it got it good.
The fractures were extensive enough to require surgical repair that included pins, a plate, and even a bone graft.
But now she is comfortably resting in her foster home and is healing well. She is placing more weight on her leg with each passing day.
Daisy still has about a month or two of cage rest, but come this fall, she will be fully ready and able to romp and play in the leaves.
Daisy is in foster care, please e-mail Erin to meet her!

Torre
Torre was living the life of an unloved, forgotten dog on a chain. Her owner no longer wanted her and called for the shelter to come take her away. We found Torre also had 7 four-week old pups with her.She was very thin and her pups were in bad shape, having started out life in a less than ideal situation. But further physical exam also showed that Torre was Heartworm positive.
We were lucky enough to have a foster home ready and willing to take on all eight so that the pups could be tended to and Torre could learn the comforts of home.
Now that the pups are weaned, Torre is ready to start her heartworm treatment. She will then be required to remain on cage rest for the following 6 weeks.
