Meet Tara

Tara is one brave girl!!Hit by car season seems to be a year round curse to the stray dogs of the Franklin County dog shelter. Tarah is just one example of a pup left to wander the streets on her own and in the midst of trying to find a place of refuge, she got smacked by a car and ended up with a dislocated hip.

Tarah was fortunate that after she was hit, she was picked up by one of our awesome wardens and brought to the dog shelter so her injuries could be assessed and her pain managed. Her change to good luck continued in that Friends of the Shelter was willing and able to step up and help her get the surgery she needed, but unfortunately the damage to the dislocated part of the bone was beyond repair with a toggle pin procedure and so she received a salvage procedure called an FHO (femoral head osteotomy) to fix what was broken.

Tarah is doing very well since her surgery and uses her leg more and more with each passing day. She very much enjoys a life of dog beds (she prefers multiples stacked on top of each other for extra cushion), head scratches, and a simple no fuss existence.

She tolerates and coexists well with other dogs as long as they don't overwhelm her and infringe on her personal space. Tara is even learning to play with other dogs and toys, too, but is perfectly content to be your one and only. She seems to enjoy people of all ages. Although getting a little less panicked at the sight of a car, Tarah prefers to be a home body instead of a copilot. She is crate trained and housebroken but doesn't need to be crated.

A vet reference is required for adoption. Tara is in foster care. If you are interested in meeting her, please complete an adoption application either online via the shelter's website, in person at the shelter's front desk--making sure it is marked for the adoption counselors since Tara is in foster care, or your application can be returned via fax to 615-525-6658, again being sure it is put to the attention of the adoption counselors. Once your application has been received and processed, we will put you in touch with Tara's foster mom to learn more.
