Volunteer

A large part of The Franklin County Dog Shelter’s success in placing adoptable dogs comes from the efforts of our volunteers!  We are always looking for volunteers to assist with activities such as:
  • Front Lobby/Helping Customers
  • Adoption Counselor
  • Bathing, Grooming, and Walking dogs
  • Kong Stuffers
  • Adoption Follow-Ups
  • Assisting Veterinary Technicians
  • Foster Care Program
  • Special Events Volunteers
  • Assisting with photos for the website
  • Collecting and delivering newspapers to the shelter
If you are interested in donating some of your time to the Franklin County Dog Shelter, please call Lou at (614) 462-7282 for more information or click here to download a volunteer application.  Once you complete an introductory orientation class, you can volunteer at anytime we are open, 7 days a week!

Some areas of volunteering that need participants BADLY:

  • Kong toys (clean, stuff, and distribute daily)!  Kongs are a valuable entertainment and stimulation tool for the dogs at the shelter. See Lou or Gina to sign up for kong training, or email Lou to volunteer.
  • Fostering sick puppies. Many of our dogs need time and love to help them recover from kennel cough, a common upper respiratory infection. All these dogs need more time to get well, but they can go home with meds & recover quicker, too! Call Erin at 462-5357 or visit the Franklin County Dog Shelter to learn more.
  • Donations especially leashes, treats, newspaper, or smooth peanut butter.
  • Additional Adoption Counselors to help with customers Weekdays 5-7 and anytime on Saturday or Sunday afternoons
