The decision to give up your dog is never an easy one to make. However, there are times when it is the best option for you and your dog. When you can no longer keep your dog, and you cannot find it a suitable home yourself, you may bring it to the shelter. There is a $10 fee to surrender your dog or to have it euthanized.

Franklin County Dog Shelter is an "open admission" shelter and we will accept any dog regardless of its potential adoptability. We will make every effort to find a loving, responsible new home for all dogs that are healthy, friendly and adoptable.

Before being placed for adoption, dogs must pass the shelter's medical and behavioral assessments. Unadoptable dogs that fail to pass assessments may be euthanized or may be considered for rescue.
